IF FISHERIES GOVERNED RABBITS
Editor:
A friend of mine wondered what could be done with the increasing numbers of rabbits in Port Alberni. My "modest
proposal" is to turn the bunnies over to the protective wing of the Department of Fisheries.
True to form, the D.F.O. could then look in their crystal ball and estimate the number of these
critters. Their estimate would be out by thousands but all user groups would be sent out to harvest the rabbits. Instead of
waiting at the rabbit hutches for the rabbits to return, the department would send the hunters all over the valley killing rabbits and any other animal that got in their way.
Suddenly the D.F.O. would realize that the rabbits weren't returning. What a surprise! Let's make up a set of regulations to baffle the hunters and then change the rules weekly. For example , the D.F.O might decide to close hunting for beige bunnies but allow a hunt for brown bunnies who have their ears clipped. White rabbits could only be hunted near the top of Mount Klitsa. Maybe some Atlantic rabbits could be imported to augment the supplies in grocery stores but most of these would escape their pens.
Polish hunters could be hired to conduct a search for the missing rabbits that used to be so plentiful. Much monies could be spent buying back rifles from individual hunters leaving only large corporations in the bunny business. If sightings continued to be too numerous, the D.F.O. could consult their political bosses in Ottawa for more creative measures to conserve the rabbits such as hunting using blanks.
I believe this is the solution. The Port Alberni rabbits would soon be in the same state as the Atlantic Cod, Pacific Abalone, Pacific Hake, or the Alberni Tyees. They would be a rare sight never again to bother valley gardens.
Yours Truly,
W.A. Phillips
Ed: Thanks Bill, I think this just about says it all.
Recipe for Bulk Eggs
- Thaw Eggs in fridge, or run under cold
water until eggs separate.
- Rinse Eggs until water runs clear
- Put eggs in small container
- Fill container with water until eggs are
just covered
- Add regular table salt, be liberal with
salt
- Stir in salt
- Place container with eggs in the fridge or
cool place, Eggs will absorb water and will harden. It will
take 4-6 hours for eggs to absorb all the water.
- Eggs are now ready to be tied into roe bags
Thanks to Nick Hnennyj for this recipe.
Lots more room. Keep them coming
